Louie is a CELTA-certified ESL teacher based in Jamaica Plain, MA. Growing up bilingual, he has been interested in languages and cross-cultural communication from a young age. After receiving his BA in East Asian Studies from McGill University, Louie threw himself into the educational field. He has worked as a writer and editor for Pimsleur Language Programs for over seven years, curating lesson content in French, Japanese, Korean, German, Greek, and more. In December of 2025, Louie took the next step in his teaching career and received his CELTA certification, further solidifying his passion for teaching.
When he's not racking his brain for new lesson ideas or combing the internet for level-appropriate news articles, you'll find Louie geeking out over Pokemon, taking a power nap with his cat Mimi, or watching bad reality TV.
Louie places a heavy emphasis on accessibility and inclusion in his ESL teaching, maintaining a student-centered approach. His teaching style revolves around "real English," applying practical contexts to English grammar and vocabulary. Louie is eager to learn more about the world from his students, prompting them to make comparisons between their home countries and the United States -- he strongly believes that learning from his students is as important as teaching them!
Louie's lesson plans often deviate from standard textbook learning, incorporating elements of American history and pop culture into the established curriculum to encourage productive discussions.
